Our Next Big Thing!

Talos 600, 1200, 1800

After several years of building high-end desktop printers and consulting across the industry designing large-format units, we felt it was time to leave our mark on the large-format category.

We have been researching, developing, and prototyping parts for the Talos for the last year. We started by exploring what the industry had to offer and at the end of the day, we were quite disappointed. You really only had two choices, spend $50000+ or spend a week assembling a sluggish printer lacking many basic features that could only be solved with addons driving the price of the smallest units to $7000 or more.

From our research, we set out a handful of goals:

  • Bring all modern features to the category (High Speed, Input Shaper, Camera Aided Alignment)

  • Assembly in 1-2 hours rather than 4-7days

  • Enclosure Option

  • Assembly Service Option

  • Make others add-ons standard, Linear Rails on Z axis, Casters, IDEX standard out of the crate.

  • Try to beat everyone's price. We did!

Assembly Options

Each Talos unit will come in 7 sub-assemblies that have already been assembled, tested, aligned, and disassembled for shipping. You will have the option of assembly on-site, an assembled unit delivered by our team (within a certain distance from Chicago) or having assembly jigs sent with the unit for self-assembly.

Speed

Throughout our research, we heard a lot of people complain about speed so we knew this had to be something we address. We took what we have learned from out high speed Daedalus units and incorporated it into the design giving the Talos rapids of up to 1000mm/sec. This is achieved with large NEMA 17 motors on X and U and NEMA 23 motors on the Y axis. The only thing that will hold back your print speed is the volumetric throughput of your nozzle and material.

Input Shaping

Input shaping will be set up out of the box. Both X and U have Duet Tool Boards installed that have accelerometers. With input shaping, we are able to achieve high speeds while ensuring high-quality prints.

Enclosure

For those of you who would like to print large high-temperature materials, you can opt for an enclosure. When we designed the enclosure we wanted to be sure that even with it installed you are able to access all critical components. You will be able to adjust all belts and lubricate all rails via doors on the front and back of the enclosure.

Release Date

We will be releasing each size in stages, first up will be the 600. We will begin shipping the Talos 600 on October 30th with the 1200 following in November and 1800 expected in December. We will begin taking orders on September 1st.

Updates

Leading up to the release date we will be providing updates as production parts arrive and deep dives on specific components. This week we will be doing a live stream where we will be diving into into our XU axis and we will be posting more about it here.

Pricing

The Talos 600 will be $5000 for those who order between September 1st and October 30th then go up to $6000. Pricing for the Talos 1200 and 1800 will be coming soon!
